We are now on platform 4 and this selection of photographs takes the usual route along the platform from north to south. This was formerly platform 5, known locally by railway staff at Grantham as 'the western platform'.

Below is a series of colour photographs of platform 4 or the "western" platform at Grantham taken from the site of the former locomotive depot. Again, the order is from north to south.

The brick buildings in the background are situated at the south end of platform 1 and still exist. The photograph was taken from a point just in front of where the coal stage was located. Copyright Image - Mel Smith

Can someone remind me - where was the refreshment room on the island platform? Was it in the wooden central section of buildings or to the north of that?
Hello Malcolm - thanks for visiting the blog and for your question. The Refreshment Room on the down side was in the northernmost brick building. There's a photo of the interior here: http://www.lner.info/forums/download/file.php?id=4363&mode=view . I'd be interested to find out its date of closure. Does anyone know?
